Pet ‘Net 2012 ~ Basic Black Is Always Chic

 Pet Net Contributor

When looking to adopt a pet please consider adopting one in basic black. In shelters, black animals are often last to be adopted and first to be euthanized.

Superstitions about black cats being bad luck and black dogs being mean are ingrained in the minds of many people leaving far too many loving, ebony colored animals without a chance for a happy life.

Shelter workers all over the country deal with this color bias every day and strive to showcase the loving nature of these pets.

Some reasons to consider adopting a black pet:

They always match your décor
Their hair won’t show up on your favorite black pants
Any color collar or bandana looks great on them
You can name them fun ironic names like Snowball
You’ll never lose them in a snowstorm
Because they’re black they always look fashionably thin
They hide dirt well
They won’t clash with any other pet you may have

Some of the reasons that black pets are less likely to be adopted is because they are harder to photograph, causing many people to pass by their pictures on adoption websites in favor of a more photogenic, seemingly “cuter” pet.

Since black pets are often readily available, consider adopting a pair if your household is able. They can keep each other company and will make a striking addition to your household.

There will be a voting module on the Pet ‘Net hub page for visitors to enter their zip code. Once all the zips are tallied, a $5000 donation from Petside.com will be given to a local animal shelter in the winning community. The winning shelter will be announced on Dec. 17.
